Zubeen Garg Dies in Singapore After Removing Life Jacket, Assam CM Confirms Heartbreaking Incident

The sudden death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has left his fans and admirers in shock. The 52-year-old singer passed away on Friday during a trip to Singapore. According to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Garg was on a yacht outing with 17 others when the tragedy took place.

Officials said that all participants were asked to wear life jackets for safety before swimming. Zubeen Garg initially wore one, but soon removed it saying that it was oversized and uncomfortable for him to swim. Despite repeated requests from the yacht crew and lifeguards, he went into the water without the jacket.

After some time, lifeguards noticed Garg floating in the sea. They quickly pulled him out and gave him CPR on the spot before rushing him to Singapore General Hospital. Sadly, doctors declared him dead. Sarma confirmed that an autopsy would be done in Singapore, and efforts were being made to bring his mortal remains back to Assam as soon as possible.

The Indian High Commission in Singapore has shared details of the people who accompanied Garg. The group included members of his team, yacht crew, and a few people from the Assamese community in Singapore. The Assam government has said that the Union Home Ministry may also be involved to understand the exact circumstances of the incident.

Back in Assam, tributes poured in from all sections of society. Leaders of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) remembered Garg as an icon who represented the voice and spirit of Assam. Chief minister Sarma, along with his wife, visited the singer’s home to offer condolences to his family.

The government has announced that Garg’s mortal remains will be kept at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati for the public to pay their last respects. His family will take the final decision regarding the funeral rituals, but Sarma said that arrangements will be made to ensure people of the state can join in bidding farewell to their beloved artist.
