The much-awaited second season of Gen V, the spinoff of the hit series The Boys, is ready to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Ahead of the release, actor Hamish Linklater, who joins the new season, opened up about his role and the challenges the writers are facing in today’s political climate.
Hamish Linklater Opens Up About Gen V Season 2
Hamish Linklater plays Cipher, the new dean of Godolkin University. This is the fictional institution where young superheroes in The Boys universe are trained. Describing his character, Hamish said Cipher is exactly the type of person Homelander would want to hire, hinting at his morally flexible nature. He jokingly remarked that this alone should reveal what kind of “good guy” his character really is.
The actor also spoke about how the show mirrors the world outside. Since the first season aired in 2023, American politics has shifted with Donald Trump’s return to the presidency. Many viewers feel that reality itself has become stranger than satire, making it difficult for shows like The Boys or Gen V to stay ahead. Hamish admitted this challenge, saying, “The writers are finding it hard to out-crazy the real world. But what I admire is that Eric Kripke (the creator) never shies away from it. He runs toward it with full courage.”

When asked what fans can expect in the new season, Hamish kept things light-hearted. With a playful smile, he teased that there will be “more butt stuff,” keeping in line with the outrageous and irreverent style that fans of the franchise love.
Apart from Hamish Linklater, the new season stars Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, and Asa Germann. Some familiar faces from The Boys will also appear in cameo roles.
