Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel recently shared her thoughts on the new film Saiyaara and her debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. She praised the fresh faces in Saiyaara while also highlighting that her first film cannot be compared to this modern love story.
Ameesha Patel Says Saiyaara Can’t Be Compared
Ameesha expressed her admiration for actors Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, who starred in Saiyaara. According to her, the film has brought “a few fresh faces that run,” meaning talented newcomers who can connect with today’s audience. She said it was the right time for Bollywood to introduce new actors and stories that appeal especially to the younger generation, also known as Gen Z.
However, Ameesha clarified that she does not want Saiyaara to be compared with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. She explained that her debut was a massy commercial romantic film with music, humor, and double roles, but it was not tragic or dramatic in the sense that some might assume. She said, “You can’t compare apples and oranges. Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was meant to entertain with joy and romance, while Saiyaara is connecting differently with today’s audience.”
Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, released in 2000, was directed by Rakesh Roshan and marked the debut of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel. The film featured popular actors like Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, and Farida Jalal. It was a huge success, earning approximately ₹78.93 crore worldwide, and is still remembered for its music, dance steps, and Hrithik Roshan’s iconic performance.
On the other hand, Saiyaara is a romantic drama directed by Mohit Suri, starring Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda, Geeta Agarwal, and Rajesh Kumar. The film was released in theaters on July 18 and has been streaming on Netflix since September 12. Produced by Yash Raj Films CEO Akshay Widhani, Saiyaara has become a massive box-office success, earning ₹398.25 crore in India and ₹569.75 crore worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing love stories of recent times.
