The trailer, released on September 9, gives viewers a glimpse into the couple’s journey. It begins in 1989 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Mike and Claire try to make a name for themselves as a Neil Diamond and Patsy Cline tribute act. While their performances brought joy to audiences, their personal lives were filled with struggles, making their story both inspiring and heartbreaking.

The teaser shows Kate Hudson and Jackman as a passionate duo, rehearsing in their kitchen, planning their stage act, and eventually falling in love. It also highlights the challenges they faced—Mike’s battle with alcoholism, his trauma from serving in the Vietnam War, and the financial difficulties of chasing a musical dream. Despite these obstacles, the couple shared many moments of love, joy, and resilience.

The film also draws on real-life tragedy. Mike Sardina, known on stage as Lightning, passed away in 2006 due to a head injury. Claire, who performed alongside him, later suffered a car accident that resulted in the loss of part of her leg. When the film was announced, Claire shared that the attention reminded her of the days when her husband was still alive and performing with her.

The trailer features powerful dialogue, including Jackman’s declaration, “I just want to entertain people,” and Hudson’s heartfelt line, “I don’t want to be a hairdresser, I want to sing.” The teaser captures both the highs of performing on stage and the lows of personal struggles, building up to an emotional climax filled with Neil Diamond song references.

Along with Jackman and Hudson, the movie includes performances by Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, and Hudson Hilbert Hensley. Directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow), the film is inspired by the award-winning 2008 documentary of the same name.

“Song Sung Blue” is set to release in theaters on Christmas Day 2025, promising audiences a moving blend of music, love, and heartbreak.
