Aly Goni later clarified his actions in an interview with Filmygyan. He explained that he did not chant because it is not part of his religion, but he deeply respects all faiths. “I didn’t even realise it. I was lost in my thoughts. I never imagined this would create such a big issue. This was my first time attending Ganpati celebrations…I usually don’t go. I didn’t know what exactly I was supposed to do there, and I always worry that I might unintentionally do something wrong,” he said.

He added that in his religion, Muslims do not perform puja. Instead, they pray through Namaz, but respecting other religions is very important. “It is written in the Quran that we must respect everyone, and I do,” Aly said. His explanation emphasized that his silence was not meant to disrespect anyone but came from his personal beliefs and cultural boundaries.
The controversy started when videos of Aly Goni at the celebrations circulated online. One video showed him standing quietly while others chanted, despite Jasmine urging him to join in. Another clip showed Aly posing for photos in traditional attire with Jasmine and actress Nia Sharma, remaining silent as the crowd chanted.

Social media reactions were divided. While some criticized Aly for not actively participating, others defended him, saying that his presence alone was respectful. Actress Nia Sharma also spoke in his support, stating that trolling him was unfair and unnecessary. She added that Aly’s silence should not be misinterpreted as disrespect toward the festival.
This incident highlights how social media can quickly escalate misunderstandings, even when someone shows respect through their presence rather than participation. Aly Goni’s explanation reminds audiences that respecting different faiths is equally important as participating in celebrations.
