Hollywood actor Bruce Willis, known for his iconic roles in Die Hard and Pulp Fiction, is currently living in a separate home under full-time care as he continues his fight with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). His wife, Emma Heming Willis, recently shared details about this difficult journey during a TV special titled Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey: A Diane Sawyer Special.
Bruce Willis Lives Separately Amid Dementia Battle
Emma revealed that Bruce, who is now 70 years old, stays in a nearby home with professional caregivers, while she lives with their two daughters, Mabel (13) and Evelyn (11). She explained that this arrangement was made for the wellbeing of their children. “Bruce would want a home that feels normal for our daughters, not one centered around his medical needs,” she said.

Although they live separately, the family remains very close. Emma and the children often visit Bruce for breakfast and dinner, making sure he still feels loved and supported. She also spoke about the early signs of his illness, recalling how Bruce became quieter and stopped enjoying small activities like school drop-offs. These changes worried the family and later led to his diagnosis.
Emma admitted that deciding to live apart was one of the hardest choices she has made as a caregiver. She described the space Bruce lives in as safe, quiet, and easier for him to manage, which helps reduce stress for both him and the family.
Bruce’s condition, frontotemporal dementia, affects behavior, personality, and language. According to Emma, the biggest challenge has been his loss of speech, so the family has learned new ways to communicate with him. She also shared that in the beginning, she tried to take care of everything on her own—often staying awake at night to watch over him and protecting him from overwhelming social situations.

Bruce Willis and Emma Heming married in 2009. Before this, Bruce was married to actress Demi Moore, with whom he has three older daughters: Rumer (37), Scout (34), and Tallulah (31). Together, the blended family continues to support him through love, patience, and togetherness.
Despite the challenges, Emma emphasized that their priority is keeping Bruce comfortable while ensuring their daughters grow up in a healthy and balanced environment.
