Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s big-budget action film War 2 has made a strong start at the Indian box office. On its first day, the movie earned an estimated ₹52.50 crore, surprising many trade experts who had expected a more modest opening. The strong performance of the Telugu dubbed version played a big role in this success.
Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR’s War 2 Opens at ₹52.50 Crore
The Hindi version collected about ₹29 crore on Day 1. While this is better than what advance bookings suggested, it is still lower than some other films in YRF’s Spy Universe. For comparison, the original War (2019) earned ₹53 crore on its first day, and Pathaan holds the record with ₹55 crore.

The real boost came from the Telugu dubbed version, which earned around ₹23.25 crore, thanks to Jr NTR’s huge fan base in the southern states. The Tamil version added ₹25 lakh. These numbers helped War 2 cross the ₹50 crore mark on its opening day. In terms of occupancy, Hindi shows recorded around 29% on Thursday, while Tamil shows had a stronger 42% turnout.
Before release, many analysts thought War 2 might have the lowest opening in the Spy Universe. However, the movie managed to beat those low expectations. Even though its Hindi earnings were lower compared to the first War, its multi-language release strategy and Jr NTR’s popularity made a big difference.
Fans of Jr NTR have praised his performance, action scenes, and dance sequences. Some even say this film will be a turning point in his career in Bollywood. Director Ayan Mukerji has also been praised for showcasing NTR’s character as a strong protector of India.
Despite this success, War 2 could not beat the opening day record of War (2019). It also faces strong competition from Rajinikanth’s Coolie, especially in southern markets. Still, early estimates suggest the film’s total India gross for Day 1, including all languages, might be around ₹60–65 crore.
