Shah Rukh Khan, one of India’s biggest film stars, has finally received the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2025 for his performance in the blockbuster movie Jawan. This marks a major moment in his long and successful career, which began over three decades ago.
Shah Rukh Khan Wins National Award for Jawan
Even though Shah Rukh has acted in many memorable films like Dil Se, My Name is Khan, Chak De! India, and Swades, he had never won a National Award before. Many fans and critics felt he truly deserved it in 2005 for his emotional role in Swades, where he played Mohan Bhargava, a NASA scientist who returns to his village in India and works to bring electricity to the rural people.
At that time, however, the award was given to Saif Ali Khan for the romantic comedy Hum Tum. Years later, a video of Shah Rukh speaking at an event resurfaced online, where he said jokingly, “I think I should have got it, but that’s another story.” He made the comment while praising director Kunal Kohli, who made Hum Tum.
Shah Rukh was seen saying that he liked all films and all actors because he has a kind heart. But in a funny and humble way, he mentioned that he felt he should have won for Swades instead of Saif.
Finally, in 2025, his patience and talent were rewarded. He won the Best Actor award at the 71st National Film Awards for Jawan, where he played a strong and emotional role that touched many hearts. His win was celebrated not just by his fans but also by fellow actors, directors, and music composer A.R. Rahman.

This victory marks the end of a long wait and proves that sometimes, true recognition comes late but is still worth the journey. Shah Rukh’s win is a proud moment for Indian cinema and a reminder of his powerful performances over the years.
