Director Mohit Suri recently shared an interesting behind-the-scenes story about casting Ahaan Panday for his film Saiyaara. At first, Mohit was unsure if Ahaan could play the lead role. Though Ahaan was already part of the Yash Raj Films system and was known for being “sweet” and “well-mannered,” Mohit felt he did not match the personality of the bold and emotional character in the movie.
Ahaan Panday’s Real Self Landed Saiyaara Role
The idea of casting Ahaan came from Aditya Chopra, who believed Ahaan could be the right choice. However, Mohit wasn’t fully convinced. He said that Ahaan seemed too polite and was not showing his true personality. They even went for dinner and had a couple of beers together, but Mohit still felt Ahaan was holding something back.
Wanting to see the real Ahaan, Mohit asked him to stop being formal and just be himself. They went to a nightclub, and by the end of the night, Ahaan was dancing in the bar. That moment helped Mohit realize that Ahaan had the energy and spirit needed for the role.

Even then, Ahaan was once told that he wasn’t selected for the film. But during one audition, when he thought the process was over, he relaxed and behaved naturally. That’s when Mohit saw the true spark in him and knew Ahaan was perfect for the role. The final version of the character in Saiyaara was shaped by both the script and Ahaan’s own personality.

Saiyaara is a romantic film about Krish (played by Ahaan), a singer, and Vaani (played by Aneet Padda), a lyricist. Though they come from different worlds, their love story is deep and meaningful. The film celebrates love that is raw, imperfect, and unconditional.
This story shows that sometimes, being your true self is what really matters and that’s exactly how Ahaan Panday landed his big break.
