Season 2 had a strong critical rating but received a low score from audiences. While critics gave it a 91% rating, the audience score dropped to just 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. The main reason for this was the unexpected death of Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) in Episode 2. This shocked many fans who had not played the video game and didn’t see it coming. Although Joel appeared again in flashbacks, the damage was already done for many viewers.
