In the 1990s, Bollywood was filled with glamour, but also had shadows from the underworld. One name often heard in those times was Dawood Ibrahim, a feared underworld figure. His reported influence in the film industry, especially in casting and financing movies, affected the careers of many. One such case is of Pakistani actress Anita Ayub.
Anita Ayub’s Career Affected by Dawood Link
Anita Ayub was born in Karachi and held a master’s degree in English Literature. She moved to Mumbai with dreams of becoming an actress and studied at the famous Roshan Taneja Acting School. Her big break came when legendary actor-director Dev Anand cast her in his 1993 film Pyar Ka Tarana. Although the film didn’t do well initially, it later gained some recognition. She also appeared in another film called Gangster, which made her more popular.

However, her rising career was soon hit by controversies. Reports began to link Anita with Dawood Ibrahim. The two were often seen together, and rumors spread quickly in the media. It was even reported that producer Javed Siddiqui, who had refused to cast Anita, was killed under mysterious circumstances—allegedly connected to Dawood. Though Anita was never legally involved in the case, these rumors badly affected her image in Bollywood.
Anita never spoke publicly about these rumors, but the damage was done. She couldn’t renew her work visa and had to leave India in the late 1990s. She moved to New York, where she married Indian businessman Saumil Patel. The couple had a son, Shazer, but later separated. Anita then married Pakistani businessman Subak Majeed and has since lived a private life away from the spotlight.

Her story reflects a difficult period in Bollywood’s history when crime and cinema crossed paths. Although Anita showed talent and promise, the controversies linked to her name ended her career too soon. Today, she lives quietly abroad, far from the fame and chaos of her earlier years.
