The much-anticipated Malayalam film Janaki Vs State Of Kerala (now titled JSK Janaki V. v/s State of Kerala) has finally received approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This comes after several weeks of delay, with the film’s makers struggling to meet the board’s guidelines.

The movie stars Union Minister Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran in lead roles. Directed by Pravin Narayanan, the film tells the powerful story of a woman’s legal fight for justice after she faces a brutal assault. It promises to be an emotional and socially relevant courtroom drama.

The delay in certification occurred due to concerns raised by the CBFC about the film’s title and the use of the name “Janaki” in certain scenes. According to reports, the board asked the filmmakers to make minor changes to the title and mute or replace the word “Janaki” in a few parts of the movie. Initially, the filmmakers said it would be difficult to rebrand the movie just before its release, but they later agreed to the suggested changes.
After these modifications were made, the film was granted certification on July 11, 2025. The Kerala High Court has now disposed of the petition filed by the production company, Cosmos Entertainments, as their concerns were resolved.

The court also ruled that the previous promotional material using the old title will not cause legal issues for the filmmakers. This brings relief to the team, who were worried about marketing and release deadlines.
Janaki Vs State Of Kerala is now set to hit theatres this week. The film has already gained attention for its strong performances and important message. With the censor board’s approval in hand, fans can now look forward to watching this intense and emotional film on the big screen.
