Iuliia Aslamova, a content creator on Instagram, posted a reel that now has over five million views. In the video, she talks about the habits she has picked up while living in India and while many people appreciated her honesty, some parts sparked debate.

Titled “Absolutely Normal Things for Yours #RussianIndian”, her reel lists eight common Indian habits that she now sees as part of her normal routine. She begins by saying that living with her in-laws is a “blessing,” not a burden. Many people in India find this difficult, but she says she enjoys the support and shared responsibilities.

Iuliia also shares how she now prefers eating with her hands, something she never did before. She feels it enhances the taste of the food. She’s also gotten used to the Indian idea of time. Being late by 15–20 minutes no longer stresses her out.
She talks about using “Hinglish” (a mix of Hindi and English), her growing love for masala chai, and learning how to bargain while shopping which she calls a “superpower.” She also highlights how deeply love is part of Indian culture, whether it’s movies or daily conversations.

However, while many applauded her for embracing Indian culture, others pointed out the privilege behind her experiences. One user commented that being a foreigner gives her special treatment, unlike many Indian women who often face challenges in joint families. Another said, “Living with in-laws is not easy for Indian daughters-in-law.”
Still, several people praised her efforts to adjust and understand Indian life. One person wrote, “It’s amazing how you’ve adapted to our culture.”
Iuliia’s reel may not represent everyone’s experience, but it opened an important discussion about culture, privilege, and perspective. It shows how one person’s view of “normal” can be very different depending on their background. Whether people agree or disagree, her video has certainly got everyone talking.
