Namit Malhotra, the man behind the visual effects (VFX) of the upcoming film Ramayana, is a big name in the world of VFX. He is not just working on Indian films but also in Hollywood. He is the CEO of DNEG, a VFX company that has worked on big films like Interstellar, Dune, and Avatar.
Namit Malhotra’s VFX Journey to Ramayana
Before Ramayana, Namit worked with director Christopher Nolan on Interstellar, a film that won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2015. In an interview, Namit said that Nolan is his favorite filmmaker. He praised Nolan for his clear vision and ability to bring emotions into science-fiction stories. Namit shared that creating scenes of black holes and wormholes for Interstellar was a big challenge. It was not just about making things look pretty, but also real and emotional.

Namit believes that VFX should feel natural. If people forget they are watching VFX, that means the work is successful. In Interstellar, the goal was to make the space scenes emotional, especially the bond between a father and his daughter. That’s why the visuals had to support the story, not distract from it.
Now, Namit is excited about Ramayana, which he calls his dream project. He said this is more than just a film—it is a cultural movement. The film has a big cast including Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The movie will show Indian mythology using high-quality global visual effects.
