Famous Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been selected for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2025. This is a proud moment for India, as Deepika has made a strong name for herself not only in Bollywood but also internationally. She became known in Hollywood after her role in the movie XXX: The Return of Xander Cage alongside Vin Diesel.
Deepika Padukone Honoured, But Sabu Was First
Many people believed that Deepika is the first Indian to receive this honour. However, this is not true. The first Indian to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was an actor named Sabu Dastagir. He received the honour many years ago, in 1960.

Sabu Dastagir was born in 1924 in Mysore, India. His father worked as an elephant keeper. Sabu was discovered by American filmmaker Robert Flaherty and got his first role in the movie Elephant Boy (1937), which was based on a story by Rudyard Kipling. After this, Sabu moved to Hollywood and became a popular actor in the 1930s and 1940s. He acted in big films like The Drum, The Thief of Bagdad, Arabian Nights, White Savage, and Cobra Woman.

Sabu became an American citizen in 1944 and even joined the US Army during World War II. Sadly, after the war, his film career slowed down. He appeared in some European films in the 1950s. Although he was once considered for the famous Indian movie Mother India (1957), he didn’t get the role due to visa issues. In 1960, Sabu was finally honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He died young, at the age of 39, in 1963.
Deepika Padukone’s Hollywood honour is still a big achievement, showing how Indian actors are becoming more popular globally. But it’s important to remember the journey of Sabu Dastagir the first Indian to shine bright in Hollywood.
