Glastonbury Organisers Appalled by Bob Vylan’s Anti-IDF Remarks During Live Festival Performance

At Glastonbury Festival 2025, a major controversy broke out after punk music duo Bob Vylan made anti-Israel Defense Forces (IDF) comments during their live performance. On the West Holts stage, the lead singer shouted the chant “death to the IDF,” which was seen by many as hate speech and incitement to violence.

The performance shocked the audience and the festival organizers. Emily Eavis, one of the Glastonbury organizers, said in a statement that the festival stands for “hope, unity, peace, and love” and that such statements were against everything the event represents. She said that while the festival allows free speech, there is no space for hate speech or anti-Semitism.

The performance was originally aired live by the BBC but was quickly taken down after the backlash. A BBC spokesperson called some of the comments “deeply offensive.” The police are also investigating to see if any laws were broken during the performance.

Bob Vylan, the main performer, claimed that sometimes violence is the only way to get a message across. This statement added more fuel to the controversy. Politicians also reacted strongly. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said there is no excuse for such hate speech and asked the BBC to explain why it was aired.

At the same festival, other artists also expressed support for Palestine, some waving flags or making short statements during their sets. Nadine Shah read a letter supporting the activist group Palestine Action, and several artists showed images of Gaza during their shows.

The Israeli embassy said the remarks made by Bob Vylan were dangerous and encouraged hate. They reminded everyone that while free speech is important, it should not turn into violent or hateful speech.

Now, the Glastonbury organizers are reminding all artists to respect the values of the festival and avoid spreading messages of hate or violence.
