Apple has finally tasted big-screen success with its new movie, “F1 The Movie.” The film made $55.6 million in North America and $144 million worldwide in its first weekend. This is Apple’s biggest success in movie theaters so far.
Apple’s ‘F1 The Movie’ Becomes a Big Box Office Hit
Apple has been making movies for six years through Apple Original Films, and while some, like “CODA” (which won an Oscar), did well, many did not perform strongly in cinemas. Films like “Argylle”, “Napoleon”, and “Killers of the Flower Moon” did better on Apple TV+ than in theaters.

“F1 The Movie” is Apple’s first try at a summer blockbuster. Apple partnered with Warner Bros. to release the film, which stars Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, and Kerry Condon. The film was made with a budget of over $200 million, so it still needs to earn more to make a profit.
The movie focuses on car racing and uses exciting technology like IMAX cameras inside race cars. These scenes gave the audience a real feel of being on the track. 55% of the movie’s ticket sales came from IMAX and large screens, showing how much people enjoyed the big-screen experience.

People who watched the movie gave it an “A” grade on CinemaScore, and critics also gave it good reviews. Experts believe the movie could continue to do well in the coming weeks, even with new big films like “Jurassic World Rebirth” releasing soon.
Interestingly, car racing movies usually don’t do well in theaters. Past movies like “Rush” (2013) and “Ferrari” (2023) did not make much money. But “F1” is different. It gained support from fans of the Formula 1 racing series, especially those who watch “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” on Netflix.
With strong reviews, big stars, and exciting racing scenes, “F1 The Movie” has given Apple its biggest movie theater win yet.
