Thug Life was one of the most awaited films of 2025. It was made with a huge budget of around Rs 200 crore. The film starred legendary actor Kamal Haasan in the lead role and was directed by famous filmmaker Mani Ratnam. With such a strong team, people had high hopes from the movie. However, the film turned out to be one of the biggest flops of the year.

Thug Life is a Tamil-language action-thriller. It tells the story of Rangaraya Shakthivel, a don who is betrayed by his own people. After the betrayal, he decides to take revenge. Kamal Haasan played the role of Rangaraya and gave a powerful performance even at the age of 70. Despite his strong acting, the film failed to impress the audience.

The movie also featured many popular actors like Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan TR, Mahesh Manjrekar, Nassar, Ali Fazal, and others. Sanya Malhotra had a dance number in the film. Even with such a star-studded cast, Thug Life did not attract viewers to theatres.
According to reports, the film earned less than Rs 15 crore on its first day. In the following days, the collection dropped even more. The film earned just Rs 75 lakh on the ninth day and even lower amounts on the next few days. It could not recover even a small part of its budget, and the makers had to face heavy losses.
One of the reasons behind the film’s failure is said to be the weak storyline. The audience did not connect with the plot and rejected the film soon after its release. Though the direction and acting were appreciated by a few, the overall film failed to leave a mark.

Thug Life became a clear example of how even big names and budgets cannot always guarantee success. A strong script and audience connection remain the most important parts of a successful film.
