Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has spoken out strongly after serious allegations of sexual harassment surfaced against cinematographer Pratik Shah. Mehta called for immediate action and accountability from the film industry. He stressed that it is time to break the silence and stop protecting powerful men who misuse their positions.
Hansal Mehta Seeks Probe Against Pratik
In a statement on social media, Mehta said that abuse grows in silence and fear. He added that such behavior must be investigated properly and, if true, should be called out without delay. He believes that for too long, influential people have used their power to keep victims quiet. According to him, this silence must now be broken for the sake of a safer and kinder work environment.

Hansal Mehta also criticized how harmful behavior is sometimes defended as part of being a ‘creative genius’. He said that such toxic mindsets should no longer be accepted. He wrote that victims deserve to be heard and supported. He explained that seeking accountability is not about cancel culture, but about correcting the culture of abuse and fear.

Pratik Shah was the cinematographer for the film ‘Homebound’, which was shown at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The movie was produced by Dharma Productions and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. After the allegations became public, Shah deleted his Instagram account. Several women have accused him of being a predator and said that they had stayed silent out of fear.
Dharma Productions also released a statement saying that Shah worked with them only for a short period as a freelancer. They mentioned that during his time on the project, no official complaints were received. However, they also stated that they have a strict zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behavior and take such issues very seriously.
