Shilpa Shetty Kundra, a well-known actress, recently shared her personal journey of struggling with an autoimmune disease called APLA. Shilpa Shetty Shares Struggle With Miscarriages

Shilpa explained that after her first child, Viaan, she wanted to have another baby. However, every time she became pregnant, the autoimmune disease interfered and caused her to lose the pregnancy. She said, “I had a couple of miscarriages, so it was a genuine issue.” This was very painful for her, but she stayed hopeful and explored other options to expand her family.

At one point, Shilpa even considered adoption. She was in the process of adopting a child, but due to some legal issues with the adoption agency, the plan could not be completed. After waiting for several years, she and her husband decided to try surrogacy, which eventually led to the birth of their second child.

APLA, which stands for Antiphospholipid Antibodies, is a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks normal proteins in the blood. This causes blood to clot abnormally, which can be very dangerous during pregnancy. Doctors say that this can reduce the blood flow to the baby and cause miscarriages, stillbirths, or other pregnancy complications.

Doctors recommend that women who experience repeated miscarriages or unusual blood clotting should get tested for APLA. Early diagnosis is important because with proper treatment, such as blood thinners, many women can have healthy pregnancies despite this condition.
