Preity Zinta, a well-known Bollywood actress and co-owner of the Punjab Kings IPL team, has taken legal action against her fellow co-owners Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia. She has approached the Chandigarh district court to challenge an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the company that owns the Punjab Kings team. The meeting, held on April 21, 2025, is being questioned by Preity Zinta for being unlawful and invalid.
Preity Zinta Challenges Punjab Kings Co-owners
Preity Zinta owns a 23% stake in the company and is one of its directors. She filed a civil suit stating that the EGM was conducted without following the proper rules set by the Companies Act, 2013, and secretarial standards. According to her, the meeting was held without giving her proper notice and was conducted in a way that did not respect the company’s laws. She also mentioned that the election of the chairperson for the meeting was not done correctly.

In her petition, Preity Zinta explained that when the meeting started, she and another director, Karan Paul, objected to Ness Wadia being appointed as the chairperson. They wanted the chairperson to be elected among the directors as per the secretarial standards. However, Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia went ahead with the meeting despite the disagreement and appointed Muneesh Khanna as an additional non-executive director. Preity Zinta claims this appointment was against the company’s rules.
Because of these issues, Preity Zinta has asked the court to stop the company and its directors from using any decisions made during that EGM. She also wants the court to stop Muneesh Khanna from acting as a director until the case is resolved. Furthermore, she has requested that no more board meetings or general meetings should happen without her and Karan Paul’s participation.

The court has issued notices to the company and the directors involved and will hear the case on May 27. This case highlights the ongoing struggle between Preity Zinta and the other co-owners of Punjab Kings over control and management of the IPL team. It is an important legal matter because it involves the governance of a popular cricket franchise and the rights of minority shareholders in a company.
