FWICE Calls for Ban on Pakistani Artists After Pahalgam Attack, Prioritizing National Interest

In the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for a complete ban on Pakistani artists working in India. This demand comes from Ashoke Dubey, the General Secretary of FWICE, who spoke out after the attack on April 22, 2025.

FWICE Demands Ban on Pakistani Artists

Ashoke Dubey expressed his strong views, stating that the situation was a matter of national interest and that the country’s safety and security should always come first. He criticized the ongoing violence, including the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, and voiced his belief that such attacks were shameful. In an official statement, Dubey clarified that FWICE would not tolerate any collaboration between Indian professionals and Pakistani artists or technicians. He warned that if any member of FWICE was found working with Pakistani artists, they would face strict action.

FWICE has already taken steps to enforce this proposed ban by sending letters to all associations affiliated with the organization. Dubey also revealed that the federation had written to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, urging the government to take action. The request was for a directive to be issued, which would declare that any Indian artist collaborating with Pakistani performers should be charged with treason.

As part of these efforts, FWICE reached out to the producers of the film Abir Gulaal, which features Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The film was set for release in India, but FWICE has asked the producers to reconsider its release. Dubey made it clear that if the film was released, FWICE would cease cooperating with anyone involved in the project, including the director, cameraman, and other team members.

FWICE’s strong stance follows the rising tension between India and Pakistan, especially after the Pahalgam attack. The Federation’s call for a ban on Pakistani artists is seen as a reaction to the increasing security concerns and the demand for more stringent measures to protect Indian interests.

This issue has sparked a significant debate within the Indian entertainment industry, with many expressing their support for the FWICE’s decision, while others believe that the creative industry should not be impacted by political tensions. The situation remains fluid, and it is yet to be seen how the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will respond to the FWICE’s request.

As tensions continue to rise, this move by FWICE has brought the focus back on the role of artists in times of national crises, with many questioning the fine line between creativity and political allegiance.
