Tharun Moorthy, the director of the upcoming film Thudarum, shared an interesting behind-the-scenes story about casting for the movie. The film features the legendary actor Mohanlal and actress Shobana in lead roles, but it was originally intended to star Jyotika as well. In a recent interview with Red FM, Tharun explained why Jyotika could not be part of the film.
Why Jyotika Rejected Mohanlal’s Thudarum Film
Thudarum is an action-comedy drama set to release on April 25, 2025. The film is highly anticipated, especially since it marks the reunion of Mohanlal and Shobana, a much-loved pair in Malayalam cinema. The two actors have appeared in several iconic films together, and fans are excited to see them back on screen after 20 years.

However, before approaching Shobana for the role, Tharun Moorthy considered pairing Mohanlal with another actress. Jyotika was initially considered for the role. Tharun recalled that Jyotika was excited when she heard the script. However, there was a scheduling conflict. Jyotika and her husband, actor Suriya, had planned a world tour during the time the film was set to begin shooting. Due to this, Jyotika had to decline the offer, and the team turned to Shobana instead.
While Shobana was always the top choice for the role, the director was initially unsure how to contact her. After Jyotika’s unavailability, the team quickly reached out to Shobana, who agreed to come on board. The film’s cast includes Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, and other talented actors in supporting roles.

Ultimately, the film will bring the iconic duo of Mohanlal and Shobana back together, much to the delight of their fans.
Jyotika, who has been busy with her own projects, is looking forward to her upcoming courtroom drama film, which will be released on Amazon Prime Video.
