Pahalgam Terror Attack Triggers Boycott Calls Against Fawad Khan’s Film Abir Gulaal

After the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, many people online are calling for a boycott of the upcoming film Abir Gulaal. The movie stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Indian actress Vaani Kapoor. The attack caused the death of 26 people and injured many others, which has led to public anger. This anger is now being directed at the movie because it features a Pakistani actor during a sensitive time.

Pahalgam Attack Sparks Boycott of Abir Gulaal

Abir Gulaal is a romantic drama and is scheduled to be released in theatres on May 9, 2025. But due to the recent tragic events, social media is full of comments asking for the film to be banned. Some users even said that no theatre in India should show the movie. One user questioned why Indian films are still being made with Pakistani actors, especially after such violent incidents.

Many are comparing the situation to the Uri terror attack in 2016. At that time, another film called Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was also facing backlash because Fawad Khan had a role in it. That movie was released just a month after the Uri attack, and now something similar is happening again. People are calling it more than just a coincidence.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a political party known for opposing Pakistani artists in Indian films, has also spoken out. The party has warned film distributors and theatre owners not to release Abir Gulaal in Maharashtra. They argue that allowing Pakistani actors in Indian films affects national security and harms the Indian film industry.

The director of Abir Gulaal, Aarti S Bagdi, has not responded yet. Meanwhile, some people on social media are supporting the boycott, while others believe films and politics should be kept separate. Still, the debate is growing, and it is unclear whether the film will be released as planned.

As the release date comes closer, the makers of Abir Gulaal may face more pressure. Whether or not the movie will hit the screens on May 9 will depend on how the situation develops in the coming days.
