Anurag Kashyap, the well-known filmmaker, has clarified recent rumors about his career and personal life. The director, who is known for his films like Gangs of Wasseypur and Dev D, had earlier confirmed that he had left Mumbai and Bollywood, calling the industry “toxic.” This led many people to believe that he might have quit filmmaking altogether. However, in a recent post on social media, Anurag cleared the air, stating that he has not quit filmmaking, despite relocating to another city.
Anurag Kashyap clarifies he hasn’t quit filmmaking
In his post, Anurag shared that he is currently busier than ever. He humorously mentioned that he is “busier than Shah Rukh Khan,” saying that his schedule is packed until 2028, with five directorial projects lined up. These projects are set to release either this year or next year. Despite all this, Anurag still finds time to reject multiple film offers every day, mentioning that he turns down about three projects daily.

His clear message was that although he has moved away from Mumbai, he is not stepping away from his passion for filmmaking. Instead, he is fully committed to his work and even said that he has the longest IMDb profile due to his constant involvement in various film projects.
His post also featured a candid and humorous tone. In a lighthearted manner, he mentioned that he doesn’t make as much money as Shah Rukh Khan, which is why he has to stay so busy with work. He also used strong language to address those who were doubting his commitment to filmmaking, telling them to mind their own business in a playful manner.
Anurag Kashyap had previously shared his frustrations with the film industry in an interview. He described Bollywood as a place where everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make massive blockbusters with ₹500 to ₹800 crore earnings. For Anurag, this pursuit of high profits has taken away the creative spirit of filmmaking. His decision to leave Mumbai was partly motivated by this desire to escape what he considers a “toxic” environment in the industry. He expressed his need to stay away from film people and the pressures that come with the pursuit of money and fame in Bollywood. It is said that he has relocated to Bengaluru, a city he feels is less influenced by the commercialism of Mumbai.
Although Anurag has left the city where he spent much of his career, he remains deeply involved in the South Indian film industry, where his work continues to receive attention and appreciation. His latest project, Dacoit – Ek Prem Katha, will see him playing a cop. The movie is directed by Shaneil Deo and produced by Supriya Yarlagadda. It also stars Mrunal Thakur and Adivi Sesh. The film is being shot in both Hindi and Telugu and is expected to be a significant release in the coming months.
