Chhorii 2 Review: Emotional Horror Tale of a Mother’s Fight Against Evil With Soha’s Comeback

Chhorii 2

Chhorii 2, directed by Vishal Furia, is the sequel to the 2021 horror film Chhorii. It brings back Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead role and introduces Soha Ali Khan in a powerful new avatar. Released on April 11, 2025, on Amazon Prime Video, the movie attempts to build on the themes of motherhood, fear, and survival set in a haunting rural background.

Chhorii 2 Review: A Mother’s Fearful Fight

The story revolves around Sakshi, a mother who is trying to protect her daughter from a dark and cursed past. After facing brutal events in her past, Sakshi takes shelter in a mysterious village where danger still follows her. Her daughter cannot be exposed to sunlight and lives a life full of fear and secrets. The mystery of who is after her daughter and what their true intentions are becomes the main plot of the film.

The film shows the emotional struggle of a mother who is ready to face any evil to protect her child. Sakshi’s journey is both painful and brave. Nushrratt Bharuccha plays her role with great emotional depth, especially in the final moments of the movie where her acting shines. Her bond with her daughter, played by child actor Hardika Sharma, is touching and real. Hardika delivers a heartwarming performance, especially for someone so young.

One of the major highlights of the film is Soha Ali Khan’s performance as ‘Daasi Maa’. She plays the antagonist in a way that leaves a strong impact. Her screen presence is scary and powerful. This role marks a significant comeback for Soha, and seeing her in a negative character for the first time adds a fresh twist to the film.

Director Vishal Furia deserves credit for not following the usual style of horror used in Hindi films. He tries to explore a new direction with a story that focuses more on the psychological and emotional aspects of fear. However, the film struggles at times. While the beginning and climax are engaging, the middle part feels slow and less exciting. The horror scenes do not always create the fear they aim for, and the background music lacks the strength needed to build tension. In fact, using local folk music could have added more authenticity and depth to the setting.

The visual effects in some scenes, especially where souls are shown being pulled out, seem inspired by fantasy movies like Harry Potter and may not fit well with the rest of the film’s tone. These creative choices could have been avoided for a more grounded horror feel.

Despite some weak moments, the film picks up pace towards the end. The final battle where Sakshi fights evil forces with the help of spirits of the dead is quite impactful. It shows how the power of a mother’s love can overcome even supernatural forces. The climax is emotional, intense, and gives the film a satisfying conclusion.

Gashmeer Mahajani also plays a supporting role in the film and does a decent job in pushing the story forward. His role may not be very large, but it helps in connecting different parts of the plot.

Chhorii 2 comes after a gap of four years since the release of the first film. While the wait was long, the movie arrives at a time when audiences are showing more interest in horror stories. With a mix of family drama and supernatural horror, the film manages to offer something different. Although it has flaws, including a few dull scenes and less effective horror elements, the strong performances by Nushrratt and Soha make it worth watching.
