Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s latest Malayalam film, Empuraan, has created history at the box office. The movie, which is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, had a strong opening and continued its momentum on the second day. Within just 48 hours of its release, Empuraan entered the ₹100 crore club, making it the fastest Malayalam film to achieve this milestone.
Empuraan Enters ₹100 Crore Club
The film had the biggest opening in Malayalam cinema history, collecting ₹22 crore on its first day in India. Most of the earnings came from the Malayalam version, with a smaller share from Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi versions. On the second day, the film faced a 44% drop but still managed to earn ₹11.75 crore. Despite this decline, Empuraan has already become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025 in Kerala, surpassing previous record-holders like Rekhachitram.

The success of Empuraan is not limited to India. It has also performed exceptionally well in overseas markets, breaking records in countries like the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. The international response has been so strong that the film earned more globally than it did in India.
The movie has also set a new benchmark in Kerala, delivering the biggest opening ever in the state. It broke the previous record held by Tamil superstar Vijay’s Leo. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Empuraan features a star-studded cast, including Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Nyla Usha, Baiju, Abhimanyu Singh, and Nikhat Khan.
