A town hall meeting in Coeur d’Alene turned chaotic when a woman was forcefully removed by private security personnel. The event, organized by the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee, took place at Coeur d’Alene High School. During the meeting, Post Falls resident Teresa Borrenpohl expressed her disagreement by shouting at a legislator. Soon after, plainclothes security guards grabbed her and dragged her out of the auditorium.

Borrenpohl later explained that she felt it was unfair that people cheering for the legislators were allowed to continue, but those who expressed disagreement were stopped. She admitted that she spoke out of turn when she shouted about a past incident involving a senator. However, she was shocked by how aggressively security handled her.

Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris was also present at the event. A video of the incident shows him approaching Borrenpohl and attempting to remove her himself. She claimed that he threatened to use pepper spray on her. When she refused to leave, he signaled for security guards to take action. The men did not identify themselves, and Borrenpohl later said she was confused about whether she was being arrested or kidnapped.
The Coeur d’Alene Police Chief, Lee White, later confirmed that the security guards worked for LEAR Asset Management, a private firm. He criticized the way they handled the situation and emphasized that people’s First Amendment rights must be protected. He also noted that security personnel in the city are required to wear clearly marked uniforms, which these guards did not. The city is now reviewing whether the company violated any regulations.
Borrenpohl was cited for misdemeanor battery because she bit one of the security guards while being dragged out. However, authorities are now reviewing video evidence to determine whether further action should be taken. The police chief also stated that the sheriff wanted Borrenpohl to be arrested for trespassing, but officers refused because the event was open to the public (Town Hall).
The incident has sparked strong reactions, with videos circulating widely on social media (Town Hall). Sheriff Norris has since received death threats and stated that he believes the situation is being unfairly portrayed. He maintained that Borrenpohl was asked to leave multiple times and that the security guards only acted in response to her refusal.

The city prosecutor is now reviewing the incident, including the actions of the security guards. If LEAR Asset Management is found to have broken city rules, its license could be suspended or revoked (Town Hall). The situation has raised concerns about security measures at public events and how law enforcement should handle such disruptions.
