NAACP Image Awards 2025: ‘The Six Triple Eight’ Wins Big, Keke Palmer Named Entertainer of the Year

The 56th NAACP Image Awards celebrated excellence in film, television, music, and more on February 22, 2025. The event, held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, recognized outstanding Black talent and their contributions to the entertainment industry. Hosted by comedian and actor Deon Cole, the awards night was filled with exciting moments, emotional speeches, and inspiring achievements.

NAACP Image Awards 2025 Highlights

One of the biggest winners of the night was the Netflix film The Six Triple Eight, which won the prestigious Outstanding Motion Picture award (NAACP Image Awards). The movie tells the true story of an all-Black, all-female battalion during World War II. The film received a total of five awards, including Best Actress in a Motion Picture for Kerry Washington. Actress Ebony Obsidian also won for her breakthrough performance and supporting role in the film.

Keke Palmer was honored as the Entertainer of the Year. In her heartfelt speech, she expressed her gratitude to the industry and her fans, acknowledging the love and support she has received throughout her two-decade-long career.

In the television categories, Queen Latifah won Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role in The Equalizer, while Michael Rainey Jr. received the award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for Power Book II: Ghost. Quinta Brunson won for her role in the comedy series Abbott Elementary, and Damon Wayans was named Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for Poppa’s House.

The music awards were equally exciting, with Kendrick Lamar’s song Not Like Us winning Outstanding Hip-Hop/Rap Song. Beyoncé continued her winning streak, taking home awards for Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Album for Cowboy Carter. Her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, also won for her voiceover performance in Mufasa: The Lion King.

This year’s event (NAACP Image Awards) also highlighted community support efforts, especially for those affected by the recent wildfires in Altadena, Pacific Palisades, and Pasadena. Several local residents attended the show and were honored with a standing ovation. The ceremony also saw an appearance by former Vice President Kamala Harris, who received the Chairman’s Award. In her speech, she spoke about the resilience of the Black community and the ongoing fight for justice.

Other notable honorees included comedian Dave Chappelle, who received the President’s Award, and the legendary Wayans family, who were inducted into the NAACP Hall of Fame. BET Media Group was also honored with the Founders Award for its contributions to Black entertainment and culture.
