In a recent interview, Guy Pearce opened up about his experience working with actor Kevin Spacey on the 1997 film L.A. Confidential. Pearce shared how, years after filming, he broke down and cried when he realized what had actually happened on set.

Guy Pearce Talks Kevin Spacey

While speaking on Awards Chatter, a podcast by The Hollywood Reporter, Pearce revealed that during the movie’s production, he felt uncomfortable and was even scared of Spacey. He mentioned that Spacey was “quite an aggressive man” and that he targeted him. Pearce, who was young at the time, admitted he brushed off Spacey’s behavior, thinking it was “nothing.” He said, “I was sort of scared of Kevin because he’s quite an aggressive man.”

Guy Pearce also talked about how the only time he felt “safe” was when his co-star, Simon Baker, was present, as Spacey would often focus his attention on him instead. However, Pearce did not fully realize the impact of Spacey’s actions until years later, especially after hearing about the sexual misconduct allegations that came to light in 2017.

When other actors, including Anthony Rapp, publicly accused Spacey of making sexual advances, Pearce had a moment of realization. He explained, “I broke down and sobbed, and I couldn’t stop. It really dawned on me the impact that had occurred.”

Guy Pearce emphasized that although he wasn’t as severely impacted as others, he still felt targeted and uncomfortable. He said that he now tries to be honest about his experiences and doesn’t want to let anyone get away with inappropriate behavior.

Kevin Spacey, despite numerous accusations, has been cleared of misconduct in two major trials in the U.S. and the U.K., and he defended himself against a lawsuit filed by Rapp. He has also stated that he believes the #MeToo movement has gone too far and that he has paid the price for his mistakes.
