Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively made a special appearance at the 50th-anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live (SNL50) on February 16, 2025. The couple attended the event in New York City, where Reynolds took part in a humorous sketch alongside former SNL cast members Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

During the show, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted a segment where they took questions from famous audience members. When Reynolds stood up, Fey simply asked, “How’s it going?” Reynolds, known for his wit, jokingly responded, “Great, why? What have you heard?” His comment hinted at the ongoing legal controversy surrounding Lively’s movie, It Ends with Us.

It Ends with Us, starring and directed by Justin Baldoni, has been at the center of a legal battle. Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, their publicist Leslie Sloane, and her PR firm, Vision PR, Inc. He claimed defamation and civil extortion. Additionally, Baldoni sued The New York Times for $250 million for an article that accused him of running a smear campaign against Lively.

Lively also filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, which included claims against a publicist named Jed Wallace. Wallace, in turn, sued Lively for $7 million, alleging defamation.

After making a lighthearted reference to the legal drama, Ryan Reynolds shifted the conversation by asking about the material used to make the Coneheads costumes, a famous SNL sketch from the 1970s. “You know the material that they made the Coneheads with? Are those edible?” he asked.

Tina Fey humorously responded that the materials were likely toxic due to their age. Ryan Reynolds then joked, “If somebody hypothetically took a couple of nibbles backstage and, you know, got excited, should they go to the hospital?” Poehler advised anyone in that situation to seek medical help immediately.

The SNL50 special featured many other celebrities, including comedians Nate Bargatze, Quinta Brunson, and Tim Meadows. The anniversary event celebrated the show’s long history of satirical sketches and cultural impact.
