Henrik and Daniel Sedin, two of the greatest Swedish ice hockey players, have been honoured as part of Sweden’s “Quarter Century Team” by the NHL. The team is part of the NHL’s new initiative to recognize top players from different nations in the past 25 years. The Sedin twins, who spent their entire 17-season careers with the Vancouver Canucks, are considered among the best Swedish players in hockey history.
Sedin Twins Lead Sweden’s Team
Alongside Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Sweden’s first team includes Nicklas Backstrom, Erik Karlsson, Nicklas Lidstrom, and Henrik Lundqvist. These players have had remarkable careers in the NHL and have contributed significantly to the success of Sweden’s national hockey team. The Sedins retired in 2018 and were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022, cementing their legacy as two of the most influential players in Swedish ice hockey.

Mats Sundin and Jacob Markstrom were also recognized as part of Sweden’s second team. Sundin, a Hall of Famer, was the longtime captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs before ending his career in Vancouver. He played a key role in Sweden’s hockey success and recorded over 600 points since the year 2000. Markstrom, a talented goaltender, has been a crucial player for Sweden’s national team, winning gold and bronze medals at the World Championships. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from the 4 Nations Face-Off due to injury.

The Henrik and Daniel Sedin and Sundin were also part of Sweden’s 2006 Olympic gold-medal-winning team, which remains one of the country’s greatest achievements in international hockey. As Sweden prepares to compete in the 4 Nations Face-Off, they will face Finland in their opening match on Saturday at 10 AM PT.
