Hulu has officially canceled the TV adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR), a popular fantasy book series written by Sarah J. Maas. The show had been in development since 2021 but faced multiple delays due to production issues and industry strikes.
Hulu Cancels ACOTAR TV Series
The series was being developed by Disney’s 20th Television for Hulu, with Sarah J. Maas working on the script alongside Outlander creator Ronald D. Moore. However, after the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, production stalled, and updates on the show became scarce.

In early 2024, reports emerged that the series was no longer in active development. Although sources initially claimed it was still under consideration, it was later confirmed that Hulu had scrapped the project entirely. The rights to the TV adaptation remain with 20th Television until late summer 2025.
Sarah J. Maas is now looking for a new studio to produce the adaptation once the rights expire with Disney. This means fans may still get a TV series, but with a different platform or production team.
The ACOTAR book series follows the story of Feyre Archeron, a 19-year-old huntress who is taken to a magical land called Prythian after unknowingly killing a faerie. Over time, she discovers secrets about the faerie world and her own destiny. The series includes five published books, with a sixth installment in the works.
