Paramount Pauses MTV EMAs, CMT Awards

Paramount Global has announced a pause on some of its major events in 2025 as the company moves forward with its merger with Skydance Media. The affected events include the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), the CMT Music Awards, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico, and the MTV MIAWs, which celebrate Latin American music and youth culture. This decision is part of Paramount’s strategy to rethink and optimize its event lineup for the future.

Despite these changes, Paramount has confirmed that other popular events such as the Video Music Awards (VMAs) and the Kids’ Choice Awards in the United States will continue as planned. Local events like Isle of MTV Malta and the VMA Japan (VMAJs) will also proceed without interruption. The company has not yet announced when it will make a final decision regarding the paused events.

Paramount has been undergoing significant restructuring in recent months. In August 2024, the company’s leadership announced a major cost-cutting plan, which included reducing its U.S. workforce by 15% and shutting down Paramount TV Studios. These measures were taken to achieve $500 million in cost savings. The company also experienced executive departures and changes in divisions such as CBS News.

Bruce Gillmer, Paramount’s president of music and events, addressed employees in an internal memo, assuring them that the company remains committed to delivering world-class entertainment. He acknowledged the hard work of the team and expressed appreciation for their dedication.

As Paramount prepares for its merger with Skydance Media, the company is looking to reshape its future strategies. While some events are on hold, its focus remains on providing high-quality entertainment and adapting to changing industry trends.
