Shahid Kapoor, the Bollywood actor known for his roles in hits like Kabir Singh and Jab We Met, recently shared his emotional journey during a podcast with Raj Shamani. The actor spoke candidly about the challenges of heartbreak and how it made him feel “not good enough.” He reflected on the valuable lessons he has learned from past relationships and how he has grown emotionally.
Shahid Kapoor Reflects on Heartbreak
Shahid confessed that after going through heartbreak, he felt as though he wasn’t enough for the person he loved. Heartbreak, according to him, often makes people question their worth. He shared that when you love someone deeply and the relationship ends, it can lead to desperate actions in an attempt to get back together. These actions, he said, sometimes lead to the loss of dignity and self-respect, something that becomes clear only after time has passed.
One of the most important lessons Shahid shared was the importance of understanding the type of person you’re with in a relationship. He emphasized that love alone is not enough; it’s crucial to recognize whether the relationship makes you a better person or brings out the worst in you. According to Shahid, this is vital because, at the end of the day, you have to live with yourself.
Shahid also discussed the importance of being a giver in a relationship. He admitted that in the past, he had been needy, often seeking comfort and wanting to feel important. However, over time, he realized that love is not about fulfilling personal needs. True love, he explained, is about giving without expecting anything in return.
In his reflection, Shahid highlighted how healthy relationships are built when both partners give to each other. He stressed that there should be no pressure or expectations in a relationship. When both partners give willingly, the relationship thrives. On the other hand, when one partner starts asking for things, it can create tension and lead to dissatisfaction. Shahid believes that when something doesn’t come naturally, it’s a sign that either the relationship isn’t right or one of the individuals isn’t the right fit for the other.
Another key insight Shahid shared was about the assumptions people make in relationships. He explained that often, as relationships deepen, we think we fully understand our partners. However, these assumptions are usually tested and challenged as the relationship progresses. Shahid noted that when those assumptions break down, it’s easy to assume that the partner has changed, but often, it’s just a deeper side of them being revealed.
On the work front, Shahid Kapoor is looking forward to his upcoming film Deva, an action thriller in which he plays the role of a cop. The movie also stars Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulatie, and Kubbra Sait, and is directed by Rosshan Andrrews. Deva is set to release on January 31, 2025, and is expected to offer an exciting cinematic experience for his fans.
