Selena Gomez, the actress and singer, expressed her heartfelt pride for her “Emilia Pérez” family, as her co-stars Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña earned nominations for the prestigious Academy Awards. Although Gomez was not nominated herself, her movie, Emilia Pérez, received several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best International Feature Film.
Selena Gomez Cheers Oscar Nominees
Gomez took to Instagram Stories to share her excitement, writing, “So incredibly proud of my @emiliaperez family!!” alongside a reel of the Oscar nomination announcement. This heartfelt moment came despite not being on the list herself.
Gomez stars in Emilia Pérez as Jessi Del Monte, the estranged wife of a Mexican cartel leader. Saldaña plays the ambitious lawyer hired by a cartel leader who is undergoing a gender-affirming surgery, while Gascón portrays the cartel leader. Both Saldaña and Gascón are receiving well-deserved recognition this awards season.
Gascón made history as the first openly trans woman to be nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Actress. She shares her nomination with other notable stars such as Cynthia Erivo and Demi Moore. Saldaña, known for her roles in Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, competing with the likes of Ariana Grande and Monica Barbaro.
Even though Gomez wasn’t nominated, she has received recognition earlier this season for her role in Emilia Pérez, including nominations for Best Supporting Actress at both the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes.
The 2025 Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will be held on March 2, 2025, live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and the public can catch Emilia Pérez, now streaming on Netflix.
