Singer Nelly Furtado recently opened up about an amusing and embarrassing incident involving her childhood crush, actor Mark Wahlberg, during their time on the set of Max Payne. Speaking on the Handsome podcast, the Grammy-winning singer shared how a teenage dream turned into an unforgettable, awkward memory.
Nelly Furtado Slaps Mark Wahlberg
As a teen, Nelly Furtado admired Wahlberg, known as “Marky Mark,” for his famous Calvin Klein advertisements. She had posters of him on her wall and called him her first celebrity crush. Years later, Furtado got the opportunity to meet and work with Wahlberg while making a cameo in the movie adaptation of the popular video game Max Payne.
In the film, Furtado’s character was required to confront Wahlberg’s character and slap him during an intense scene. However, being new to acting, she misunderstood the situation. Furtado thought that to prepare for the scene, she needed to practice the slap several times.

“I didn’t know any better. I thought slapping him repeatedly would make the scene more realistic,” she admitted. Unfortunately, this meant Wahlberg endured multiple full-force slaps while maintaining professionalism.
“He didn’t say a word,” Furtado said, laughing. “He let me slap him multiple times, and his face got redder with each one. Meanwhile, my inner 14-year-old was freaking out because I was slapping my childhood hero!”
Despite her nervousness and the comedic mishap, Furtado managed to complete the scene, earning laughs from the crew when they realized what had happened. Reflecting on the moment, she described it as a mix of admiration, embarrassment, and an unforgettable memory from her early acting days.
This lighthearted story shows Nelly Furtado’s humility and the funny side of stepping into unfamiliar territory like acting. It also highlights Wahlberg’s patience and professionalism during the unexpectedly comic situation.
