The classic holiday movie Home Alone continues to hold a special place in the hearts of fans worldwide. However, not everyone knows the humorous and slightly painful incident that happened on the set during its filming. Recently, Daniel Stern, one of the movie’s main stars, shared this unforgettable story.
Joe Pesci Bites Culkin Accidentally
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Stern recalled how his co-star, Joe Pesci, accidentally bit young actor Macaulay Culkin’s finger during one of the film’s famous scenes. Pesci, known for his intense acting style, was portraying one of the bumbling burglars, Harry. In the scene, Harry grabs Kevin’s finger to intimidate him, and during the act, he unintentionally bit Culkin’s finger a bit too hard.
Reflecting on the moment, Stern said, “I think Joe was fully into character and meant to act scary, but he accidentally bit Macaulay’s finger for real. I remember him immediately apologizing, saying he didn’t mean it. That was one of the rare moments where Pesci, who is usually so professional and intense, looked truly embarrassed.”

Macaulay Culkin has also spoken about this incident during a Q&A session at the Rosemont Theatre. He joked about having a “scar” as a reminder of the scene and said it was the only time he saw Joe Pesci visibly startled. “I guess he was more terrified about hurting a kid than anything else,” Culkin added with a laugh.
The Home Alone movies have become iconic over the years, serving as comfort films for many viewers during the holiday season. Fans fondly remember Kevin’s clever traps, the comical burglars, and the heartwarming moments in the story.
Interestingly, Culkin once considered purchasing the Home Alone house in Winnetka, Illinois, simply for fun. However, he revealed he decided against it because his life as a parent is already busy enough.
Stories like these add a nostalgic and humorous layer to the timeless classic, reminding fans why they continue to cherish the Home Alone films decades later.
