Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has filed a motion in New York federal court to dismiss a lawsuit that accuses him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl during a post-MTV Video Music Awards party in the early 2000s. This is the first legal response from Jay-Z regarding the allegations.
Jay-Z Denies Rape Allegations
The lawsuit, filed in October under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, identifies Combs as the main defendant but names Jay-Z as one of the assailants. The plaintiff, referred to as Jane Doe, claims the incident took place at one of Combs’ infamous after-parties. The complaint was recently amended on December 8 to include Jay-Z as a named defendant.

Jay-Z’s legal team has strongly denied the claims, describing them as baseless and harmful to his reputation. His attorneys have also filed a request to require the plaintiff to reveal her identity, arguing that such severe accusations should not allow anonymity.
In a statement, Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, said, “Mr. Carter deserves to know the identity of the person accusing him of criminal conduct. These allegations are damaging and sensationalized, demanding massive financial compensation.”
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, has accused Jay-Z of attempting to intimidate both him and the plaintiff through public and legal actions. He stated, “Jay-Z has tried to bully and harass me and my client instead of facing these allegations responsibly.”
Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is also implicated in the lawsuit, faces additional charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. His trial for these separate allegations is scheduled for May 2025.
Jay-Z’s motion to dismiss the case is still pending, and a hearing date has not yet been set. Both Jay-Z and Combs continue to deny all allegations against them, with Combs’ legal team dismissing the claims as an attempt at extortion.
