When the nominations were announced, Coralie Fargeat expressed her immense joy. Speaking to Deadline, she shared, “My first reaction was a big scream of joy. For real!” She described the overwhelming moment when she celebrated at home, possibly startling her neighbors with her excitement.

Fargeat stated that the recognition is a significant milestone in her career. “It’s an honor to be nominated alongside so many filmmakers I deeply admire,” she added.

Coralie Fargeat explained her choice of Demi Moore for the lead role. She needed someone bold, willing to immerse herself in the intense and genre-specific story. Moore’s book, Inside Out, convinced the director of Moore’s fearless personality. After discussing the project, Fargeat knew Moore was the ideal fit, saying, “Oh, Demi really rocks. She’s rock’n’roll!”

The Substance also earned nominations for Best Performance by a Female Actor (Demi Moore), Best Supporting Actress (Margaret Qualley), and Best Screenplay. Fargeat credited the film’s success to the collective effort of her cast and crew.
