Sources close to the development report that the founder of Barstool Sports, and famous media personality Dave Portnoy is exiting the popular podcast “BFFs” by the end of 2024. According to sources, it is time for the duo to untangle themselves from the teenage drama.

Dave Portnoy, who is hyper-verbal and even gets egregious at times, said growing disinterest in the focus of the show – teenage internet drama – was his main reason for leaving.
“Some of the topics don’t interest me at all,” he said on Barstool’s “Unnamed Show.” “They bring in the topics when I go in there. I haven’t done research on it. And I’m just tearing apart 18-year-olds who I don’t even know.”
Launched in 2020 with co-hosts Josh Richards and Brianna LaPaglia, “BFFs” quickly gained fame for its blend of celebrity interviews, social commentary, and humorous banter. Portnoy often played the role of a sarcastic and uncensored anecdote-giving type on the latest online trends and personalities.
But at 50, he seems to have found the material dull. “I’m getting older,” he said, “talking about high school drama feels a little out of my wheelhouse now.
“BFFs” will most likely be the same without Portnoy, as LaPaglia and Richards will continue to be the hosts of the show. There was no word regarding any changes regarding formats, but the show already has a base of fans; thus, this can be a good launching platform for things to start.
That would have been some recognition. But actually, it isn’t. It’s just: Dave Portnoy out, and the end. Still, the momentum of the podcast likely makes all the difference for the better, because the potential for Portnoy to expand is enormous.
His mind remains on growing Barstool Sports into a media monolith, but his presence on “BFFs” opens up new doors. Only time will tell what exactly the future holds for both Portnoy and “BFFs.” At this point, though, the impact on the podcast sphere will certainly be felt from this sudden decision.
