Reports also reveal that the Duke of York had been living in the Royal Lodge since 2003 and has spent nearly $9 million managing the property. King Charles’ decision to stop the allowance was reportedly made after Prince Andrew refused to move out of the Royal Lodge, even after being asked to relocate to Frogmore Cottage, the former residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
In his book Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, author Robert Hardman sheds light on the strained relationship between the brothers. He mentions that Prince Andrew was not willing to move from the Royal Lodge, and this led King Charles to cut off his financial support.
Prince security costs have also been high, with reports indicating that the monarchy had been spending around $4 million annually on his protection. This situation has sparked public interest, especially considering that the Royal Family has been under scrutiny for its expenses.
Despite the financial changes, Andrew continues to live in the Royal Lodge, maintaining a relatively low profile. As the royal family navigates these challenges, the relationship between Prince Andrew and King Charles remains a topic of ongoing media attention.
