Julian Casablancas, the lead singer of the band The Strokes, recently made headlines for his decision not to vote in the ongoing 2024 US elections. The acclaimed musician, known for his rebellious nature, posted an image of an “I Protested” sticker on social media instead of the usual “I Voted” sticker that many Americans share after casting their vote.
Julian Casablancas Refuses to Vote
In his Instagram post, Julian Casablancas explained why he decided to abstain from voting. He shared a conversation with his mother, who encouraged him to vote, especially to prevent Donald Trump from winning. Despite his mother’s advice, Julian expressed frustration with the political system. He believes that both major political parties are “puppets” controlled by powerful interests like the military, oil companies, and banks, which, in his view, manipulate the country’s decisions. He also criticized the media, calling it the “propaganda/entertainment wing” of these corporate powers.

Casablancas made it clear that he believes the political system is broken and that voting in the current setup won’t bring real change. He pointed out how Bernie Sanders was treated unfairly during the Democratic primaries and expressed his disappointment with the way elections are run in the US. His stance has sparked a lot of debate online, with some fans criticizing him for his decision, while others agree with his views on the system.
Interestingly, Julian’s bandmate, Nikolai Fraiture, took a different approach. Fraiture posted about voting early on Halloween, sharing a picture of his “Halloween Voter 2024” sticker along with a piece of candy.
Casablancas’ refusal to vote has caused a stir among his fans, with some supporting his rebellious message and others expressing disappointment. His stance highlights the growing disillusionment with the political process and the ongoing debates about the influence of corporations and media on American politics.
