Teri Garr played the role of Phoebe Abbott, Phoebe Buffay’s biological mother, in the TV show Friends. She first appeared in the Season 3 finale, titled “The One at the Beach,” which aired in 1997. In this episode, Phoebe learns that the woman she thought was just a family friend is actually her real mother, which adds depth to her character.

In the 2000s, Garr publicly shared her battle with multiple sclerosis, a condition she had been living with for years. Her openness helped raise awareness about the disease. In 2006, she published a memoir detailing her life experiences and struggles.
Following Garr’s passing on October 29, 2024, Lisa Kudrow expressed her gratitude for having worked with such a legendary actress. Kudrow emphasized that Garr was not only a brilliant actress but also a great influence on many, including herself. In an interview, she stated, “I feel so lucky and grateful I got to work with Teri Garr.”
