Harvey Weinstein, the 72-year-old former Hollywood producer, has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) while serving his prison sentence. This news comes amid various health challenges he has faced recently.
Harvey Weinstein’s Health Update
Chronic myeloid leukemia is a type of cancer that starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow. It happens due to a genetic change in the cells that produce blood, creating an abnormal gene called BCR-ABL. This leads to the production of too many blood cells, which can crowd out healthy cells in the bone marrow and blood.

CML is often slow-growing, but it can become more aggressive over time, turning into acute leukemia, which is harder to treat.
Harvey Weinstein is currently receiving treatment for CML at Rikers Island jail in New York. He has had several health issues in the past, including emergency heart surgery last month to remove excess fluid from his heart and lungs. He also tested positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia earlier this year, requiring hospitalization.
His legal representative, Craig Rothfeld, stated that they would not provide further details out of respect for Weinstein’s privacy.
Harvey Weinstein was convicted of multiple sexual offenses and is serving a 23-year sentence. Although his New York conviction was overturned due to judicial errors, he still faces a 16-year sentence from a separate conviction in Los Angeles for rape.
This diagnosis adds to Weinstein’s ongoing health and legal troubles, sparking discussions about his future.
