Will Ananya Panday's CTRL Have a Sequel? Director Discusses Original Ending Changes

The movie CTRL, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and starring Ananya Panday, was recently released on Netflix and is receiving a lot of attention. The director has shared insights about the film, including the possibility of a sequel and changes made to the original ending.

CTRL Sequel Plans Discussed

Fans of CTRL are curious if there will be a sequel. When asked about this, Vikramaditya Motwane expressed some doubts. He mentioned that while a sequel could explore Nella’s journey for revenge, he thinks it might not fit well. He stated, “I don’t buy into a sequel. I think in Nella’s case, she’s doomed.” He believes that the story should remain a cautionary tale rather than becoming a revenge story.

Motwane also talked about the original ending of the film. In the first draft, Nella had a vengeful ending where she sought revenge. However, he realized that this dramatic change did not match the film’s structure, especially since it was made in a screenlife format. He said, “Why would anyone in that right mind stream this or shoot this, what would be the screenlife element?” This led to the decision to change the ending to something that fit better with the overall story.

Vikramaditya Motwane wanted CTRL to be a collaborative project. He praised the contributions of Sumukhi Suresh, who wrote the dialogues, and Ananya Panday, who brought the character of Nella to life. Acknowledging his own distance from the digital world of young adults, he made sure to involve people who understood the internet culture of today’s generation.

In the film, Nella interacts with an AI character named Allen. Instead of creating a complex AI like in other films, Motwane designed Allen to be more relatable and accessible. He wanted Allen to be an app that could help with social media and act as a friend. This design choice made Allen engaging without getting too complicated.
