Punjabi singer and actor Guru Randhawa recently released the trailer for his new film Shahkot on September 30. This has sparked significant controversy and protests in various places.

Speaking about the protests, in a special interview Guru Randhawa shared feelings about it. He especially focused on supporting cinema, stating that if cinema is supported, it will expand even more. He said that he rendered his best to this Punjabi picture and advised people to go and watch this movie so that it would be good filmmaking in future.

Some people are alleging that Shahkot is favoring Pakistan. Regarding this, Randhawa said that most people make judgments without bothering to understand the film to the fullest extent. He also pointed out that those protesting have not watched the full movie and that once they do, they will understand that is not what it is. He simply said that particular film is very sweet and asserted that the like producing such films has been done before and will also be done in the future.
Some reports have it that protesters have voiced their displeasure with the censor board, and are calling for particular scenes in the film to be deleted. Guru Randhawa responded to these claims, he mentioned that he made this statement after watching the trailer some people are against. He said that the viewers will be able to get a clearer picture of the film after watching the full version of the film.
Last year the Shiv Sena Punjab unit protested against the film, involving burning posters and shouting slogans against Pakistan. Shahkot also includes Raj Babbar and Esha Talwar and once again the music is composed by Guru Randhawa. This film is directed by Rajeev Dhingra and is set to be launched in theaters on October 4th.
