Akriti Chopra, one of the co-founders of the popular food delivery platform Zomato, has decided to step down after 13 years of service. Her resignation, effective from September 27, 2024, was announced by the company in an official statement.
Zomato Co-founder Akriti Chopra Resigns Today
Akriti Chopra joined Zomato in November 2011, beginning her career as a senior manager in finance and operations. Over the years, she took on various roles and was promoted multiple times. She served as Vice President of Finance & Operations and then became the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In October 2020, Akriti moved into the role of Head of People Development, eventually taking over as the Chief People Officer (CPO) in June 2021.

Before joining Zomato, Akriti worked with PwC, a global consulting firm, where she gained experience in tax and regulatory practices for about three years. Her background in finance and management played a crucial role in shaping Zomato’s internal structure and growth.
Akriti Chopra decided to resign to pursue new interests outside the company. In her farewell email to CEO Deepinder Goyal, she expressed gratitude for her time at Zomato, describing it as an “incredibly enriching journey” and assured that she would always be available to support the team.
This is not the first time a key leader has exited Zomato. In January 2023, another co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Gunjan Patidar, resigned after serving the company for over a decade. Similarly, in November 2022, co-founder Mohit Gupta also left the company. He was previously the CEO of Zomato’s food delivery business before being elevated to the co-founder position in 2020.
Akriti Chopra has not disclosed her future plans yet, but her contribution to Zomato’s journey has been significant. As the company navigates this transition, her departure marks the end of an era for Zomato, a company that has grown exponentially since its inception.
While Akriti steps away from her active role, Zomato continues to evolve, ensuring its position as one of the leading food delivery platforms in India and globally.
