Shailene Woodley, famous for her roles in Big Little Lies and Divergent, recently revealed a hidden talent while preparing to play the iconic singer Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic. While getting into character, Woodley joked that she discovered she could actually sing, not just in the shower, but outside of it too.
Shailene Woodley Finds Singing Talent
During an appearance on the podcast Live with Kelly and Mark, Shailene shared her journey of becoming Janis Joplin. She mentioned that the biopic has been in the making for over six years, and for her, it’s important to approach this role with integrity and care. She expressed how much she admires Janis, saying, “Janis is someone I’ve always deeply respected and admired. She had an incredible spirit and soul.”

While discussing the challenges of portraying a musical icon, Woodley admitted she wasn’t a trained singer but was surprised to find that she could sing decently with the right guidance. Working with Linda Perry, a musician and producer, has been a huge support for her in this transformation. Perry has not only helped Shailene with her singing lessons but also encouraged her to find her own voice.
Reflecting on this new skill, Woodley shared, “I thought I could only sing in the shower, but thanks to Linda, I’ve realized I can sing outside of it too!”
Though more details about the biopic are yet to be announced, fans of Shailene Woodley are eagerly awaiting her portrayal of Janis Joplin. In the meantime, Woodley continues to shine in her latest projects, including Three Women and possibly a return to Big Little Lies.
