CSK to Retain MS Dhoni and Four Key Players for IPL 2025 Season Auction

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have shortlisted five key players ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. As a fresh mega auction approaches, CSK is focusing on retaining its core players to build a strong team for the next season.

CSK Retains Dhoni for IPL 2025

MS Dhoni, the legendary cricketer, is one of the five players CSK plans to retain. As Dhoni is likely to play his final IPL season in 2025, the franchise is eager to keep him on board. Dhoni has led CSK to five IPL titles, and his last season with the team would be a fitting end to his illustrious IPL career. Reports suggest that Dhoni will be placed in the lowest payment bracket as part of a mutual agreement with the team.

Along with Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the current captain, is set to be retained. Gaikwad is seen as a future leader for CSK and an essential part of their plans. Former captain and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is also on the retention list, as he remains a crucial player for the franchise.

Shivam Dube, another rising star, has been identified as an important player for the future and is expected to stay with CSK. The final player on the retention list is Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana. Pathirana has quickly become a key figure in CSK’s bowling attack and is likely to play a significant role in the upcoming seasons.

CSK had a disappointing performance in IPL 2024, finishing 5th and missing out on the playoffs. However, the team is focusing on the future and retaining these five players as part of its long-term strategy. With Gaikwad as a potential future leader and Pathirana strengthening the bowling, CSK aims to build a strong foundation for the coming years.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still deciding how many players teams can retain, but the number is expected to be between four and eight, along with Right to Match cards. CSK’s retention choices show that the team is determined to keep its core intact and make a strong comeback in IPL 2025.
